The 2021 New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oil Awards in October were a huge success for The Olive Press with all 13 of TOP’s 2021 Pressed Gold olive oils entered awarded medals – 9 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Our best result ever. See medal details below.

To cap it off the 2021 Pressed Gold Midori No Yuzu agrumato olive oil was awarded Best Flavoured Oil in Show. This amazing, intensely aromatic yuzu flavoured oil is a collaboration between The Olive Press and Junko and Neville Chun of YuzuNZ. Made agrumato style (olives and yuzu pressed together) this oil captures the intense citrus flavour of yuzu complemented with the fresh herbal characteristics of freshly harvested olives.

We are very proud to have pressed all five of the top award winning oils in the show, including Kapiti Olives Frantoio, which was awarded Best in Show. TOP was awarded Best Processor for the 8th year in a row.

The Australian International Olive Awards held the same month confirmed the excellent quality of the 6 oils entered with I gold medal, 4 silver medals and a bronze medal as well as taking out Reserve Champion Spanish Varietal for our Pressed Gold Picual. The AIOA International Olives Awards hosts a prestigious panel of international Olive Oil judges who compare different olive oils from all around the world. It’s an incredible achievement to be sitting up there with some of the best olive oils of this season.

To say we are proud of the superb quality of our olive oils and the recognition they have received in what has been a challenging year is an understatement.

A huge thank you to our oil makers Dan and Richard who managed an early start to the season and the challenges thrown at them, Michael for his unstinting support on the forklift and to our harvester operators Adam and Zach and Garry and the hand harvest team for your patience, expertise and hard work. Also to Ricardo our Grove Manager and TOPs harvest logistics and admin team Mark and Tarn who helped keep all the plates in the air and the crew fed and watered.

Making delicious olive oil requires a team of skilled, dedicated people to make it all happen and we are fortunate to have such a team.
